Too Many Secrets

Marleen's 40th birthday puzzle hunt

My sister made me this amazing birthday gift - least I could do was to write a report on it and make it look kinda of awesome to do the experience justice. So that's what I did. I didn't have time, however, to create a version that displays beautifully on small screens. So this report is only available on tablets, laptops, desktop PCs and TVs.

You can try turning your mobile device sideways (for landscape mode) - or otherwise, find a slightly larger screen and then come back!

Thank you.

Beans' Puzzling Challenge

The next day, I headed upstairs and spent some time with Beans, but he was being incredibly cryptic and said absolutely nothing to me about his back. I had to investigate this myself, and started walking around the house to check all the places he likes to sleep.

And I did find something... a little black box!

It contained 520 puzzle pieces. Sounds pretty easy for experienced puzzlers, but unfortunately, the pieces were all very similar in terms of colour and texture.

Here's an online version (300 pieces),
in case you would like to try it yourself . . .

I kept plucking away at it all day while talking to people on the phone and video chat about birthday things. Jeff also joined in to help, and we finished the puzzle just after midnight.

. . . And here's a link to the finished map,
in case you don't!

There was a lot going on on the map... some symbols looked very familiar, and others not at all! I had thought this would be a treasure map (maybe of Sooke or Sunriver), but I couldn't map the geography to anything nearby, and the branching paths were confusing as well. But that was a problem for tomorrow.
